Seven Primary Areas of Board Responsibilites
The responsibility of the board constitutes ‘the what of governance’. These responsibilities fall under seven general headings. They are:
- establishing and/or safeguarding the mission and planning for the future;
- financial stewardship;
- human resources stewardship;
- performance monitoring and accountability to key stakeholders;
- community representation, education and advocacy
- risk management; and
- managing, or ensuring proper management of ‘critical events’ and ‘transitional phases’
