Executive Director
Canadian Parents for French (CPF) is the national network of volunteers that values French as an integral part of Canada and is dedicated to the promotion and creation of French second language learning opportunities for young Canadians. BC & Yukon is by far the largest provincial Branch of CPF with more than 7000 members organized in 47 communities across BC and the Yukon.
The Executive Director leads a professional team to:
- fulfill the organization’s strategic goals;
- engage members and stakeholders;
- promote French second language programs and cultural opportunities;
- advocate for positive social change;
- manage issues; and,
- run an accountable and sustainable organization.
Our dynamic, inspired and high energy Executive Director will build trusting and collaborative relationships, and employ excellent advocacy and organizational skills.
Our ideal candidate must have a thorough knowledge of French second language issues and programs in BC and the Yukon. Applicants must demonstrate excellent inter-personal, fundraising, media relations and communications skills and be fully bilingual (English and French). The Executive Director will work out of our Broadway corridor area, south of downtown Vancouver, office.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the organization toward fulfillment of its annual and long-term strategic goals
- Manage all staff, including conducting regular performance reviews, and hiring
- Financial management, including budget development, reporting, and reforecasting
- Overseeing and providing support to all programs, which includes conducting regular evaluations
- Develop and pursue broad-based advocacy campaigns
- Provide advocacy support at the municipal, district, provincial, territorial and federal levels
- Liaise regularly with partners and decision makers including representatives and committees at the municipal, district, provincial, territorial and federal governmental levels
- Diversify fundraising efforts and meet all fundraising goals, including researching, identifying and writing grant applications
- Provide support to the Board of Directors and Committees
- Write briefs and presentations in support of Organization initiatives
- Work closely with local chapters and parent volunteers
- Write program and funding proposals and reports to funders
- Participate in national, provincial and local committees
- Manage all media relations and external/internal communications
The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of French second language issues and programs in BC and the Yukon
- Minimum three years organizational management experience
- Minimum two years program management experience
- Minimum three years managing staff
- Demonstrated advocacy experience with a range of audiences and employing a variety of strategies
- Experience within the non-profit sector
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills including writing and editing of proposals, reports and newsletters
- Demonstrated experience working with the media
- Proven fundraising experience employing a diversity of strategies
- Strong awareness of financial systems and experience in financial management
- Relevant university degree
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated public speaking skills
- Ability to work well under tight deadlines
- Excellent computer skills
- Positive attitude
French / English bilingualism is essential
