Title: Executive Director
Responsible to: BCI Board of Directors Responsible for: BCI Office Staff Reports to: President and Chair of the Board, BCIPMAC Direct Reports: 3 Overall Impact of Position The Executive Director (“ED”) is the chief operating officer and secretary of the Institute and serves as a member of the Institute’s committees ex-officio in accordance with the British Columbia Institute Purchasing Management Association of Canada’s (“BCIPMAC” or “Institute”) bylaws. The ED also supports the Registrar to manage the certified professional development program. The ED is accountable for all organizational performance and exercises authority for duties delegated by the BCIPMAC Board of Directors (“Board”). The ED’s performance will be considered to be synonymous with organizational performance as a whole. This is an exciting and challenging role, as the successful candidate will lead the organization in increasing the profile and awareness of the provincial Institute and national Association, providing mentorship and guidance to staff, and ensuring the core educational programs and member services are delivered to the highest potential, all in an effort to achieve the Institute’s missions and goals. Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience Education
Experience Managerial: Five years of progressively senior management experience and an understanding of the not-for-profit sector, ideally within a professional association, or the supply chain field of practice. Demonstrated ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment with a commitment to providing increased levels of customer service and satisfaction and overall improvement to the Institute. Significant knowledge and experience in business planning, marketing, and financial management principles is mandatory. Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Excellent management skills and ability to juggle multiple deadlines and priorities. Functional/Technical: Significant experience in business process management. Ability to exercise sound judgment in applying internal controls while maintaining a strong stakeholder focus. Strong commitment to providing a high level of customer service using a collaborative leadership style in an environment of high team orientation. Additional exposure to public relations, communications, information systems and accounting principles would be highly desirable.
Personal Qualifications Intellectual: Strong conceptual skills with the ability to understand and quickly interpret economic and internal performance indicators so that actions for continuous improvement are undertaken. Demonstrated ability to review and synthesize information and provide appropriate strategic advice to staff and the Board.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to relate to and communicate with the Board, employers, members, suppliers and other stakeholders. Develop and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders and promote a highly effective management team. Autonomy: Ability to work under broad guidelines, constrained by principles and ethics of the function, utilizing sound judgment and making informed decisions and still provide a high degree of stakeholder satisfaction. Communication: A good public speaker. An excellent communicator with strong listening skills who can effectively communicate strategies and plans. Ability to write effectively and develop policy and strategies from a conceptual understanding. Other Duties The ED attends evening and/or weekend meetings and other events, as required.
