The BC Care Providers Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Fontaine as its new Chief Executive Officer. Fontaine is replacing Ed Helfrich, who is retiring after 27 years with the BCCPA, where he served as CEO.
Fontaine comes to BCCPA after serving over four years as Chief Public Affairs Officer at Mitacs, a highly successful national not-for-profit organization based at the University of British Columbia. Fontaine was instrumental in helping Mitacs obtain new funding to expand the size of its signature internship program by over 400% since 2008.
“We are very excited to have Daniel joining our team and we know he will be able to provide the kind of leadership we need to advocate for excellence in senior’s care throughout British Columbia,” says Mary McDougall, President.
His extensive background in government, the private and not-for-profit sectors as well and media relations will ensure that BC Care Providers Association continues to provide leadership in the Province for seniors care issues.
In 2004, Fontaine was appointed to the BC College of Psychologists where he sat on the Board of Directors for six years. In that capacity, he served as Chair of the Discipline and Patient Relations Committees. In 2010, Fontaine was appointed to the Board of Directors for Douglas College. He served a two-year term and was an active member of the Human Resource Committee.
“I am pleased to be taking over the helm of the association after it has been ably led by Ed for so many years,” says Fontaine. “I hope to build on his success and ensure the BC Care Providers Association remains the industry’s voice to government and the public.”
In November 2012, Fontaine was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for his record of public service to Canada. He also worked as Director of Communications for the Western Brewers Association and Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Vancouver.
