Simply put, we fear the unknown, deny the inevitable and hesitae to take action. These are the most frequest reaons cites for delaying a board led sucession planning effort.
- We did’t know we needed one
- It’s too hard or complex
- It will take too much time ( or we have plenty of time)
- We might get it wrong and make things worse.
- The current leadership might feel threatened if we start to talk about how we are going to replace him or her.
- There aren’t enough good resources to develop a good plan.
